Two people were killed and 12 others were wounded when Turkish security forces opened fire on a truck carrying refugees in the Pervari district of the southeastern province of Siirt on June 27.

The truck was carrying 84 refugees from Afghanistan and Pakistan, state-run Anadolu Agency reported, adding that the drivers ignored a stop warning and opened fire on the security forces, leading to clashes.

According to the Siirt Governor's Office, security forces received a tip-off on a truck's suspicious movements earlier in the day and wanted to stop it during road controls. It said that the truck ignored the warning and opened fire on the security forces, prompting them to fire back.

The refugees were taken to a hospital and the driver, identified only as R.E., was apprehended, it said, adding that some of the refugees fled the scene.

An investigation was launched into the incident.
