Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) deputy Garo Paylan has asked Health Minister Fahrettin Koca the reason for why only 500 coronavirus tests were carried out in the past 27 days in the Kurdish-majority province of Diyarbakır.
"Is discrimination the case when distributing tests to Diyarbakır and other provinces in the region?" Paylan, who is a Diyarbakır lawmaker, said in his parliamentary question following reports on the issue.
"The fact that such a little amount of tests are carried out in a city with a population of nearly 2 million people and where people died from coronavirus is incomprehensible," he also said.
Turkey's death toll from the new coronavirus rose by 75 on April 6 to total 649, and new confirmed cases rose by 3,148 to bring the country's total to 30,217, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter.
He said 21,400 tests for the COVID-19 disease had been performed in Turkey in the last 24 hours.
