A private-run coal mine in the Black Sea province of Zonguldak collapsed, killing one and injuring one miner.

Gelik Madencilik owns the coal mine located in Gelik town of Kilimli district of Zonguldak.

Accordingly, the mine’s ceiling collapsed, initially injuring Onur Savaş in the foot and Şenol Zurnalı in the head.

After half an hour, they were rescued from the collapse. Zurnalı lost his life at the hospital while receiving treatment.

Onur, on the other hand, was not in a life-threatening condition.

The collapse happened just three months after nine workers were trapped under tonnes of soil contaminated with chemicals after a heap exceeding recommended amounts slid at the İliç Gold Mine in the eastern Erzincan province, exposing cyanide to the environment.
