Young woman in southern Turkey succeeds in evading forced marriage after seeking help from police
A 19-year-old woman in the southern province of Adana sought help from law enforcement to evade a forced marriage and succeeded. State-run Anadolu Agency reported that she contacted the security guards at the venue, who then called the police.

A 19-year-old woman in the southern province of Adana sought help from law enforcement to evade a forced marriage and succeeded to do so on June 30. Her would-be husband was detained.
The young woman, Ceylan Beyazkaya, told security guards at the local marriage licensing venue that she was being forced into a marriage, who then called the police, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
Police arrived at the marriage licensing directorate and took Beyazkaya into custody, and detained the prospective groom.
While the young woman's family refused the marriage was forced, her mother was eventually taken to the police station to give an official statement.
Arranged marriages in Turkey are still common, including for underage individuals, and although there are laws in place to prevent it, they're not enforced strictly.
