Zeitgeist Turkey | Episode 2: Coronavirus, economic survival mode and the political fallout

In the second episode of ‘Zeitgeist Turkey’, Duvar English’s Cansu Çamlıbel and pollster Can Selçuki talk about the the shortfalls of the economic shield package of the government and survival mode in Turkish society set off by the coronavirus outbreak. They also discuss the political implications of sudden removal of the Transport Minister from his post following mounting criticism for holding the first tender for controversial Kanal Istanbul project last week.

In the second episode of ‘Zeitgeist Turkey’, Duvar English’s Cansu Çamlıbel phones co-host Can Selçuki to record their conversation instead of coming together in a studio.

They discuss the surge in the positive cases in Turkey followed by a notable increase in the number of the coronavirus tests carried out across the country, as well as the low accuracy rates of the rapid tests purchased from China by the Turkish government.

Cansu Çamlıbel asks Can Selçuki, an economist with experience at the World Bank, to navigate the audience through the shortfalls of the economic shield package of Erdoğan's government and the economic survival mode among Turkish society sett off by the coronavirus outbreak.
