Zeitgeist Turkey | Episode 22: Turkey's women want accountability for violent crimes against them

In this week's episode, Cansu Çamlıbel and Can Selçuki are joined by the editor of Zeitgeist Turkey, Azra Ceylan, for her impressions from the women's protest in Istanbul on Nov. 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. In this special audio episode, we turn our microphone to the women on the streets, who have had enough of impunity and leniency in the prosecution of violent crimes against them.

In this week's episode of Zeitgeist Turkey, Duvar English Editor-in-chief Cansu Çamlıbel and pollster Can Selçuki take a break from Ankara's busy political agenda to turn to the streets for a special audio episode about the Istanbul women's rally on Nov. 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Zeitgeist Turkey Editor Azra Ceylan joins the hosts in front of the microphone for the first time to give her impressions from the meeting in Istanbul's Kadıköy.

The most pressing issue on the minds of women in Turkey is undoubtedly the country's systemic impunity of violent crimes against the sex, with an average of 25 femicides taking place every month since the start of 2020.

While a portion within Turkey's judiciary remains reluctant to prosecute assailants, legal protective measures aren't always enough to protect women either.
