"First these asphalt-hearted people tried to paint it black 😡 Then they scraped it off a little bit, and then tried to cover it up with a boring yellow. You lack taste, you're boring," a student group said on social media on April 8 sharing photos of the steps. 

"Try not to drown in your hatred. We invite you to the peace that comes from embracing everyone. It'll do you good," the same group said in their social media post.

Students from the university previously faced prosecution for a pride flag-focused art piece that includes images of Mecca. Ankara has also recently mandated age restrictions on rainbow apparel in a flurry of homophobic rhetoric coming out of the top ranks of government.
