Sweden's Mondo Duplantis broke his own pole vault world record when he cleared 6.25 meters at the third attempt on Aug. 5 having retained the Olympic gold medal with a 6.00m leap, Reuters reported.

Duplantis had earlier cleared 6.10 to set an Olympic record and, with the entire stadium watching after all other events had finished, he surpassed the 6.24 mark he set in April.

After breaking the Olympic record on Aug. 5 evening, Duplantis copied the viral pose of the Turkish pistol shooter and silver-medalist Yusuf Dikeç.

Commenting on the pose, Duplantis said he did not previously plan to do it, but Australian pole vaulter Kurtis Marschall "dared me to it. I thought it was a funny thing, and I thought that he seemed super cool."

Turkish Olympic pistol shooter and Paris 2024 silver medalist Yusuf Dikeç previously stormed the Internet for not wearing special equipment while shooting. Dikeç won the medal with his teammate Şevval İlayda Tarhan.

With his casual shooting style, Dikeç became a worldwide Internet sensation.
