BTP says withdrawing from elections in support of opposition bloc Nation Alliance

Independent Turkey Party (BTP) leader Hüseyin Baş has announced that the party will withdraw its lists of deputy candidates that it submitted to the Supreme Election Council (YSK).

Baş said that the party took a decision not to participate in the May 14 elections, in a move to support the opposition Nation Alliance.

“We, as the BTP, took a decision not to participate in this election. We will withdraw our lists. We want to leave the opposition bloc the chance to get a number of parliamentarians above the average. We see this as a responsibility. The BTP will support (Nation Alliance’s presidential candidate Kemal) Kılıçdaroğlu in the upcoming elections,” Baş told tv100 broadcaster on April 10.

Baş also made the announcement on his Twitter account, with the message of: “Sacrifice was needed, and we did it.”

BTP was one of the 26 political parties that submitted their lists of deputy candidates to the YSK for the May 14 general elections on April 9.
