PodcastCHP mayor asks for Erdoğan’s consent to have his statue erected
Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, from the main CHP, had vowed before the elections that if President Erdoğan were to win again, he would have his statue erected in the city. In order to keep his promise, Özcan wrote to Erdoğan and asked for his consent as he is by law required to do so.

Bolu Mayor Tanjur Özcan, from the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), has asked for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s consent to erect his statue in the city.
Prior to the presidential elections, Özcan had vowed to build the statue if Erdoğan is re-elected. After Erdoğan’s election win against CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Özcan’s vow came to the agenda again.
On June 13, Özcan tweeted that he will keep his promise.
“Prior to the elections, I sent a tweet to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, I wish I had never sent it. Word comes out of a chap’s mouth once. But, according to the regulations, to have a living person’s statue erected, a consent needs to be received from the (relevant) person. And to keep my promise, I have written a letter to Mr. President and asked for consent from him,” Özcan tweeted, also sharing the letter he penned.
