Climate change common problem of humanity, says Erdoğan

Turkish President Erdoğan has said that climate change is a common problem of humanity. “It is clear that more joint work is needed in the face of the devastating effects of the climate crisis,” he noted in a video message to the United Nations’ International Conference on Climate-Resilient Pakistan.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Jan. 9 that climate change is a common problem of humanity and Turkey is doing its part in the fight against it.

“It is clear that more joint work is needed in the face of the devastating effects of the climate crisis,” he stated in a video message to the International Conference on Climate-Resilient Pakistan.

Officials from some 40 countries as well as private donors and international financial institutions gathered for a meeting in Geneva as Islamabad seeks help, according to reporting by Reuters.

“The disaster that took place in Pakistan once again revealed the devastating effects of climate change. It is necessary to fight against this and similar disasters in solidarity. Turkey fulfills its responsibilities in terms of contributing to this global struggle. Climate-resilient rebuilding of all disaster-prone areas of Pakistan will prevent new sufferings,” Erdoğan added.

He noted Turkey is ready to provide the necessary contribution to the reconstruction in Pakistan.

Waters are still receding from the floods caused by monsoon rains and melting glaciers which killed at least 1,700 people and displaced around 8 million in Pakistan.
