The Chairman of Turkey’s Council of Higher Education (YÖK) announced Turkish universities will start online classes on March 23. Schools that possess the necessary digital equipment will be holding online classes online and YÖK will provide remote education material to other schools.

“Schools that have the digital equipment for it will start online classes on March 23 and a pool of remote education materials will be made available to other schools on the same day,” Yekta Saraç said on March 18.
He also said that the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) will be providing YÖK with an airwave to broadcast classes that would reach a broad audience.
Some 123 universities nationwide have a Remote Learning, Application and Research Center, Saraç noted, adding that classes about remote teaching in higher education will be available to all educators.
The Council of Higher Education is nonetheless leaving the choice to high schools to either offer online exams or to do them in person.
Saraç’s statements come as the first official announcement about higher education since a decision made on March 12 to suspend usual, in-person classes at all education levels.
