Defense Minister Hulusi Akar has said that there are 156 soldiers who tested positive for the coronavirus, adding that the Turkish Armed Forces is among the most successful armies in the world in terms of the number of cases. A total of 156 soldiers were tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19), Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on May 20.
According to Akar, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) is among the most successful armies in the world in terms of the number of cases.
"I celebrate everyone for achieving this. We currently have 156 friends who tested positive. All of them are under control and their conditions are not critical," Akar said in an event to mark Eid al-Fitr.
Saying that their biggest fear was the spread of the virus to the army's operation zones, Akar noted that there are no coronavirus cases in the said areas as a result of the adopted measures.
"We could be facing seriously unwanted situations if virus had spread there. There weren't any problems in the navy as well," he said.
In his speech, Akar noted that the certification process of the mechanical ventilators designed and produced by the Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK) is expected to be completed soon.
"Afterwards, we'll start to produce 500 a week," he said.
