Turkey continues to see rise in daily Covid-19 cases

Turkey registered 1,592 new coronavirus cases on June 15, after it initiated a sudden normalization period two weeks ago. Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said that the rise in infections were concentrated in certain areas.

The number of new coronavirus cases in Turkey rose to 1,592 in the last 24 hours, Health Ministry data showed on June 15.

In the last 24 hours, 18 people died, bringing total fatalities to 4,825, according to the ministry data.

"Compared to yesterday, the number of cases increased by 30, the number of intensive care patients increased by 5 and the number of intubated patients increased by 1. The increases are concentrating in certain regions. Complacency or struggle?" Health Minister Fahrettin Koca wrote on Twitter.

The daily coronavirus infection tally on June 15 is almost double the level to which it had fallen in early June. The daily number of cases had been below 1,000 from late May until June 12, hitting a low of 786 on June 2.

Ankara authorized restaurants, cafes, gyms, parks, beaches and museums to reopen on June 1 and eased stay-at-home orders for senior citizens and minors.

People crowded seasides and parks following the relaxation, often without masks or observing social distancing.
