COVID-19 migration: Thousands flee Istanbul ahead of full lockdown
Thousands of Istanbul residents have rushed to leave the city ahead of the full lockdown set to be implemented between April 29 and May 17, creating massive traffic jams.
Istanbul residents have caused traffic congestion all around the city as they fled the metropolis ahead of the nationwide full lockdown.
The Turkish government issued a nationwide curfew on April 26 in an attempt to curb a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country. Intercity travel will be banned between April 29 and May 17.
Scenes of massive traffic jams were seen on April 28, as thousands tried to leave Istanbul before the lockdown began.
Thousands have also flocked to airports and bus terminals in an attempt to reach their destination before April 29.
