Acemoğlu was welcomed by his classmate and the current principal of Galatasaray High School, Mustafa Reşat Dabak.
Acemoğlu engaged in a conversation with senior year students about his academic journey and the Nobel Prize. Following this, he joined a study session with students in his former classroom, 12 Science/B.
In a nod to "The Narrow Corridor," the book he co-authored with James A. Robinson, Acemoğlu had his photo taken in the historic corridor of Galatasaray High School.
Daron Acemoğlu was born in Istanbul in 1967 to an Armenian family and graduated from Galatasaray High School in 1986. He continued his education in the United Kingdom before starting his academic career in the United States.
