A Turkish court has released Fatma Zehra Kınık, the daughter of former Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) chief Kerem Kınık, pending trial after a fatal accident, Ekol TV reported.
Accordingly, Kınık’s car crashed into a motorcycle used by 17-year-old Y.S.Ö in Istanbul’s Beykoz district. Another 17-year-old teenager, B.B.Ç. was sitting at the back of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle skidded with the force of the impact and both teenagers fell off the motorcycle. B.B.Ç’s head hit a concrete piece on the sidewalk, and he lost his life at a hospital.
After giving her testimony, Fatma Zehra Kınık was released pending trial.
Meanwhile, Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç said while answering the questions of the journalists “If there is an error in the case, it will be corrected through an appeal.”
In May 2023, Kerem Kınık resigned from the chairmanship of the Red Crescent three months after controversy emerged over the selling of tents to charity Ahbap in the first days after devastating earthquakes in Turkey. Citizens asked why it did not distribute the tents for free at a critical time, questioning what the organization has been doing with their donations.
