Dersim's communist mayor might run in western Turkey for local elections
Dersim Mayor Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu has stated that he might run as a district mayoral candidate in western Turkey for the upcoming local elections.

Turkey's first mayor from the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), eastern Dersim Mayor Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu, on Dec. 20 said that he might become a mayoral candidate in western Turkey for the local elections to be held on March 31, 2024.
Speaking to Tele1 channel, Maçoğlu said he might re-run for Dersim Municipality but they were also conducting research for some district municipalities in Istanbul, İzmir and Aydın provinces.
He said they would decide where to run as a mayoral candidate after the research and the meetings with the political parties and democratic mass organizations.
55-year-old Maçoğlu first became Dersim’s Ovacık district mayor in 2014. After his success in the district, he was elected as Dersim Mayor from the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) in the 2019 local elections.
