Turkey on Aug. 3 denounced U.S.-based company Delta Crescent Energy LLC for signing a deal with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to extract, process and produce oil in northeastern Syria.
"We deeply regret the U.S. support to this step, disregarding international law, violating territorial integrity, unity and sovereignty of Syria, as well as being considered within the scope of financing terrorism. This act, which cannot be justified by any legitimate motive, is utterly unacceptable" the Foreign Ministry said in a written statement.
The ministry said that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the People's Protection Units (YPG) "have clearly demonstrated their ambition to advance their separatist agenda by seizing the natural resources of the Syrian people."
"The natural resources of Syria belong to the Syrian people," it said.
Turkey perceives the YPG and YPG-led SDF as terror groups due to their links with the PKK, which is designated as a terrorist organization by Ankara, Washington and the European Union.
