Domestic tourists flock to historical, scenic locations on Eid holiday
As Turkey’s domestic tourists took advantage of the nine-day Eid holiday, historical and scenic sites were flooded with large crowds. The Istiklal Avenue and Prince’s Islands were popular destinations in Istanbul, meanwhile, the ancient Göbeklitepe and Zeugma sites hosted record numbers of visitors.
Many in Turkey chose domestic destinations for the Eid holiday.
In Istanbul, same-day visitors formed long queues at the ferry terminals to the Prince’s Islands.
The historical tram running on Istanbul’s iconic İstiklal Avenue was halted due to the large crowds congesting the road.

Istanbul's historical peninsula was also flooded with visitors from Istanbul and surrounding provinces. The Hagia Sophia, Basicila Cistern, and Sultanahmet Mosque were among the popular hubs.

In the Amasra district in northwestern Turkey, officials had to limit vehicle entry into the historical peninsula.
20,000 vehicles entered the town in a single day, blocking traffic and obstructing pedestrian flow in the town square.
