An explosion at an unlicensed coal mine has killed two workers and wounded another in the Kilimli district of the Black Sea province of Zonguldak. Speaking about the incident, Deputy Governor Turgut Subaşı said that the unlicensed mine was shut down by security forces a month ago, but it was reopened later on. An investigation was launched into the case.

Two workers were killed and another was wounded in an unlicensed coal mine explosion in the Kilimli district of the Black Sea province of Zonguldak on Dec. 25.
The blast took place as a result of methane gas entrapment some 40 meters deep in the mine, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
One of the workers, Bahri Yeniay, was rescued from the mine and taken to a hospital, while Erdem and Uğur Korkmaz were trapped.
Gendarmerie units and Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) teams were called to the scene and the dead bodies of the workers were recovered.
Speaking about the incident, Deputy Governor Turgut Subaşı said that the unlicensed mine was shut down by security forces a month ago, but it was reopened later on.
When asked whether those responsible were detained, Subaşı noted that an investigation was launched.
