Turkish singer Haluk Levent gave an online concert late on April 22 on a ferry off the coast of the western province of İzmir to mark the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The singer gave the concert called "100th Anniversary Concert of April 23" on the ferry that was on-the-go as part of the celebrations organized by the İzmir Municipality.
"I can see all over İzmir right now. I can see its lights and sending my love to my friends. I had the chance to give a concert on the 100th anniversary of April 23," Levent said, adding that they are abiding by the rules of social distancing.
The National Sovereignty and Children’s Day is a public holiday in Turkey commemorating the foundation of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on April 23, 1920.
Earlier in the day, the municipality's marching band and music groups from the city toured İzmir in five buses. People were seen cheering and singing in their homes while waving the Turkish flag.
They also sang the national anthem and nationalist marches to mark the day.
