A woman who rejoiced last week's strong İzmir earthquake due to the province being run by the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) was released on condition receiving training on disaster awareness.
Neriman Kibar, who is seen to be a staunch supporter of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and an Islamist, celebrated the quake that left over 110 people dead.
According to Kibar, the province is filled with "blasphemous people" and hence "deserves the earthquake."
She also said that "she won't allow people to say anything against the AKP."
Kibar was detained in Istanbul after her posts prompted outrage and an investigation was launched into her for "openly inciting the public to enmity and hatred."
She was then released on condition of receiving training or a seminar on earthquakes and disaster awareness from Provincial Disaster Directorate.
Kibar is not the only social media user who celebrated the earthquake, with bunch of other Islamists and AKP supporters rejoicing as well.
Their celebration stems from the fact that İzmir overwhelmingly supports the CHP and is known for being secular.
