Heavy machinery has razed a Caretta caretta breeding area in the Kumluca district of the southern province of Antalya, prompting fury among locals.
Residents of the Mavikent neighborhood saw destroyed Caretta caretta nests and tracks of heavy machinery on sand on Aug. 24.
They then notified authorities on the issue, who carried out examinations at the scene.
The number of destroyed nests and damaged eggs are currently unknown.
Caretta carettas are an endangered species.
