During the ceremony, Özil said that he is very excited and happy to be joining Fenerbahçe.

The 32-year-old midfielder noted that he wants to start playing as soon as possible. "I believe that I will experience championship with Fenerbahçe," Özil said. 

Upon two separate questions from reporters, Özil ruled out returning to Bundesliga and playing for the German national football team. "I never go back when I enter a path," he said. 

On Jan. 25, Fenerbahçe said that the club would pay Özil a total of €9 million ($10.9 million) during the three-and-a-half-year contract, adding that he will also get a signing fee of €550,000.
