Duvar English - A forest fire has erupted in the touristic Marmaris district of the southwestern province of Muğla. Tourists were seen watching the flames from a nearby beach.
The fire started on June 27 for reasons yet unknown. It broke out in forestland close to hotels and settlements.
Forest workers and firefighters as well as six helicopters, sprinklers, bulldozers, and water tankers were battling flames that the wind helped quickly spread over the region. One person involved in the extinguishing efforts was killed.
Orhan Tavlı, the province’s governor, told state-run Anadolu Agency that the wind in the region is complicating firefighting efforts.
