Former Turkey and Fenerbahçe striker, now TV pundit Serhat Akın was shot in the foot, the footballer announced on his social media early on Sept. 27.
“They shot me in my foot after the program, my last word is Fenerbahçe,” Akın said. He was at a TV studio in Istanbul’s Beykoz district for commenting on Fenerbahçe's 2-1 win over Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League.
The 43-year-old Akın has been known for his heavy criticism of the current Fenerbahçe board.
Five days before the attack, he said during a broadcast that he was receiving threats. “I'm not afraid of anyone. Threats don't work. The president (Ali Koç) threatens those he can't buy… First they asked for support in the election. They realized they couldn't buy me, so they hired people to take me down.”
Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the attack.
In a statement, Fenerbahçe condemned the attack, and said, “We expect the perpetrators to be brought to justice as soon as possible.”
