Four Syrian children have died in a house fire in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul, Demirören News Agency reported on Dec. 14.
The fire erupted at 2 a.m. in the basement floor of a building where a Syrian family of six was living.
Four children, Besme, Şahin, Ahmet and Selva Hammud died, while their mother Fatma Hammud and their sibling Şakkur Hammud were taken to a hospital.
Istanbul Governor's Office released a statement about the fire and said that an investigation was launched into the incident.
According to the initial examinations of the fire department, the fire was caused by the electric heater.
Mustafa Demir, who lives in the same building as the Syrian family, said that the children couldn't be saved due to intense smoke.
