Galatasaray on Feb. 24 announced that it will file a complaint against Fenerbahçe’s head coach, José Mourinho, with the prosecutor’s office, as well as UEFA and FIFA, on the grounds of "racism."

During his post-match press conference, Mourinho commented on one of the player’s performance, stating, "I have to thank the referee because, in the situation I mentioned, everyone on the other bench was jumping like monkeys."

Following these remarks, Galatasaray took to social media, posting "Say no to racism," along with a statement condemning Mourinho’s words. The club accused the Portuguese coach of consistently making derogatory remarks about Turkish people since arriving in the country.

"Today, Jose Mourinho has added inhumane rhetoric to his already unethical remarks. We will file a criminal complaint against him for his racist statements and take the matter to UEFA and FIFA. At the same time, we will be closely watching how our ‘morality-preaching’ rival reacts to their coach’s words," the statement read.

During the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe match, where 32,500 police officers were deployed for security, authorities announced that actions were taken against 71 individuals for "disrupting stadium security and crowd order, lighting flares and throwing them onto the field, and causing disturbances both inside and outside the stadium."

Also, for the first time in 55 years since the practice was discontinued in the 1970-1971 season, a foreign referee officiated a Süper Lig match.
