A Turkish brigadier general reportedly beat one of his subordinates in Syria, prompting criticism from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
Ali Tilkici, the head of the Specialized Sergeants Federation, said that Brigadier General Ercan Pürsünlü beat a specialized soldier in a military unit in Syria.
"We'll be a part of this case with our entire legal bureau. I wonder if you'll be able to say, 'I'm a general, I can beat him' in court. Will you deny what happened despite hundreds of witnesses?" Tilkici said in a Facebook post on May 19.

"We'll teach you that this is a state of law and that you're not above the law and regulations," he added.
MHP deputy leader İzzet Ulvi Yönter commented on Tilkici's claims, saying that the party will follow the case.
"We'll be standing against those who play with the honors of our specialized sergeants, who humiliate and beat them in front of people and we'll pursue this case until they're brought to account," Yönter said on May 19.
"Everyone should know their place and limits," he added.
