Family of man 'killed by soldiers' seek justice in southeastern Turkey
The family of a 20-year-old man reportedly killed by soldiers in the southeastern province of Van has been seeking justice, as they applied to the Human Rights Association for legal support. The family of a 20-year-old man reportedly killed by soldiers in the southeastern province of Van has been seeking justice, as they applied to the Human Rights Association for legal support.
Erhan Görür's family said that he was killed in the Başkale district on June 14 when soldiers opened fire on him, adding that his dead body was found with two soldiers standing next to it.
Görür's mother Sıdıka Görür said that the incident took place at around 11 p.m. on the street when his son went out of the village to buy cigarettes with his friends.
"We heard gunshots at 1 a.m. Erhan called his friend Yaşar to tell him that he was shot. The villagers and the families learned about the incident afterwards. The village head then went to the area and saw Saim Yılmaz who was wounded. He asked about Erhan and the soldiers told him that Erhan escaped," Görür said in the application.
"Erhan's dead body was seen with later on with two soldiers standing next to it. The village head brought his body to the village and four bullets were found on his body," she added.
