Resident Derya Çayırbaşı said that locals suffered greatly from the pollution in the area and encouraged the municipality to clean up around the lake.

Mass fish deaths were observed in the lake in 2019 as well, and a chemical analysis of the water had revealed that the lake was devastatingly polluted.
