A group of shopkeepers in Turkey’s southern Adana province on July 19 commemorated the inventor of modern air conditioning, Willis Haviland Carrier, on the occasion of the 121st anniversary of the invention.
The group also distributed sweets to people in Adana’s Çukurova district in front of a banner that reads "We pay homage to Willis Haviland Carrier, who invented the air conditioning, on this hot, difficult day."
The move came after the weather passed the temperature of 40 degrees Celsius in the southern province.
Those who commemorated Carrier said that he signed one of the most important inventions of the world.
Among those, Mehmet Saygın said, “Especially the people of Adana really need air conditioning. God bless him for making such an invention. We would have had a lot of trouble without air conditioning, we could not sleep,” Demirören News Agency reported.
