The Istanbul Metro announced on Twitter that it has increased the number of trips on the subway lines to alleviate the passenger traffic.
According to the Research Center of the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK-AR), 61 percent of workers are employed in sectors that are fully exempt from the lockdown rules.
As the public transport has been limited to a 50 percent capacity during the full lockdown, several people were seen waiting at the bus stops throughout the megacity.
Traffic police started tightening control of the city, stopping vehicles at several checkpoints to see if they had special permission allowing them to be exempt from the lockdown rules. The implementation led to long queues.
