Istanbul police batter, detain Boğaziçi University students during protest
Istanbul police on April 1 battered and detained several Boğaziçi University students in the Kadıköy district, just as they gathered in protest of the arrest of their friends. Images showed the police laying the students on the ground and handcuffing them behind their backs.

According to Boğaziçi Solidarity group, at least 35 students have been detained for calling on the authorities to release Anıl Akyüz and Şilan Delpata from custody.

Akyüz and Delpata were previously arrested for participating in the protests against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's appointment of a party member as a rector to Boğaziçi University.

Ahead of the two students' hearing at the Kartal Courthouse on April 2, Boğaziçi Solidarity group announced a protest in the Kadıköy district.
