Rainfall on dams totaled 481 kg/m², the lowest amount recorded in the last decade. In the same period last year, dams received 777 kg/m² of rainfall.
Speaking to daily Evrensel, İSKİ deputy general manager Bülent Solmaz explained that the main reason why the drought risk has reached crisis level is that the rainfall between June and October was close to zero.
Solmaz also underscored that even the current water storage capacity of 868 million cubic metres is not enough for the megacity because even 100 per cent occupancy rate of dams means 7-8 months of water reserve.
İSKİ provides service to approximately 16 million people.
While the occupancy rate in the capital Ankara was 27.10 percent, it was recorded as 41,37 percent in İzmir, country's third largest city.
