Luxury hotel opens on site where executed former Turkish PM was jailed
A luxury hotel built on the island where former Prime Minister Adnan Menderes served his prison sentence under the junta opened its doors to visitors. The Yassıada Island is located off the coast of Istanbul and was a rather virgin piece of land until the construction of the massive hotel.
Duvar English - Katre Island Hotel, located on the site where former Prime Minister Adnan Menderes served his prison sentence under the junta administration, opened its doors to visitors, the daily Cumhuriyet reported on Aug. 18.
Built on Yassıada, which is dubbed the Democracy and Freedom Island, the luxury hotel essentially takes up the entirety of the piece of land that was rather virgin before the construction of the massive structure.
Yassıada was opened to visitors by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on May 27, 2020, and the 125-room hotel is priced with foreign currency at rates that are unimaginable for an average Turkish family's budget.
Nightly rates for a room at Katre Island Hotel start from 140 Euros, which is the equivalent of about 1,300 Turkish Liras, almost half of minimum wage in Turkey.
