Built on Yassıada, which is dubbed the Democracy and Freedom Island, the luxury hotel essentially takes up the entirety of the piece of land that was rather virgin before the construction of the massive structure.
Yassıada was opened to visitors by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on May 27, 2020, and the 125-room hotel is priced with foreign currency at rates that are unimaginable for an average Turkish family's budget.
Nightly rates for a room at Katre Island Hotel start from 140 Euros, which is the equivalent of about 1,300 Turkish Liras, almost half of minimum wage in Turkey.
Nightly rates hike as far up as 7,500 Euros, which is more than 74,000 Turkish Liras, more than double the annual income of a worker in Turkey who's paid minimum wage.
