More than quarter of opposition’s parliamentary questions remained unanswered in 2024 in Turkey

In 2024, 3,930 of the parliamentary questions submitted by Turkey’s opposition parties remained unanswered. Meanwhile, the parliament passed 23 bills in 2024, all of which were proposed by the ruling AKP.

Turkey’s opposition parties submitted 13,347 parliamentary questions in 2024, of which 3,390 remained unanswered. 

Only 1,814 motions were answered on time, while 6,603 of them were answered after their deadlines. 

5,500 of these motions were submitted by the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), followed by the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party with 4,918 motions. The İYİ (Good) Party submitted 1,432 motions.

131 parliamentary questions were returned for not complying with the internal regulations.

Meanwhile, the Parliament passed 23 bills in 2024, all of which were proposed by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). In total, 946 bills were proposed by parties in 2024. 

The CHP proposed the most bills with 370. 

The Parliament established five research commissions in 2024 for the İliç mine disaster, artificial intelligence, violence and abuse against children, violence and discrimination against women, and infant deaths.

The details were revealed in an answer to the parliamentary motion submitted by DEM Party lawmaker Ceylan Akça Cupolo.
