Turkish police on Aug. 30 detained two drivers and seven road work supervisors over the metrobus accident that killed one and injured 53 in the Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul.
Two metrobuses, the transit public transport buses of Istanbul, collided on Aug. 29 on the D-100 highway. The impact caused the vehicles to veer off and crash into barriers. Following the collision, numerous fire, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
The accident resulted in 53 people injured, who were transported to nearby hospitals. The severely injured 22-year-old Ferhat Uçar died at the hospital.
The accident caused long traffic jams in both directions. The metrobus lane was closed, and passengers were directed to Marmaray and bus stops.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu expressed his sorrow over the incident and wished condolences to the family of Uçar via X. "Our comprehensive investigation into the accident is ongoing," he wrote.

Sharing photos of his visit on social media, he stated, "I visited our citizens injured in the metrobus accident in Küçükçekmece. I once again extend my best wishes for a speedy recovery. We will closely monitor their treatment process and wish them a quick recovery. All administrative procedures related to the accident will be thoroughly investigated, and the results will be shared with the public."
An initial report stated that the driver did not see the road work sign posted on the metrobus lane, and missed the turn. The driver attempted to make a sudden turn and collided with another metrobus coming head-on.
