The northern lights on Oct. 10 were observed in northern Turkey.
Although the phenomenon is most commonly associated with polar regions, it can be seen at lower latitudes. Such events are usually triggered by increased solar activity, including solar flares and coronal mass ejections.
This year, a particularly active solar cycle has resulted in more frequent and intense displays.
This photo was taken in the Abana district of the northern Kastamonu province.
Another photo was captured in the Kocaali district of the northern Sakarya province.
Aurora Borealis, commonly known as the northern lights, occurs due to the interaction between Earth's magnetic field and charged particles from the Sun.
