“Will you walk with those who ambushed Gaffar Okan and strangled Gonca Kuriş? Make a decision!”
The opposition has been targeting the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) for its cooperation with the radical Islamist Free Cause Party (HÜDA-PAR) which has four MPs in the Turkish parliament due to this collaboration. The HÜDA-PAR has an affiliation with the radical Islamist terrorist organization Hizbullah which killed many using horrendous torture methods. Gaffar Okan was a police chief who investigated the organization in Turkey’s southeastern region, and Gonca Kuriş was a Muslim feminist activist. Hizbullah killed them both.
“We will not leave our homeland to those who let 10 million refugees into our midst, who made Syrians a bargaining chip. Make a decision!”
The opposition began to target the government’s immigration policy more aggressively in the second round. The fact that the third candidate Sinan Oğan garnered five percent of the votes in the first round was also effective in this decision. The far-right ultranationalist leader’s one of the main prerequisites for endorsing a leader in the runoff was a strong stance against Syrian refugees.
"Will you say 'yes' to those who plot against the Turkish army, who are uncomfortable with the Turkish flag, who are incapable of protecting the borders?"
“Will you march with those who sold blood and tents in the earthquake, those who left our citizens under the rubble? Make a decision!”
Another line of attack from the opposition is the government’s response to Feb. 6 earthquakes that devastated Southeastern Turkey. The Turkish Red Crescent became the center of controversy after it sold relief supplies to NGOs that wanted to help the earthquake victims.
