The Epiphany day marks the beginning of Orthodox Christmas celebrations. It is one of Orthodox Church’s most important feasts, commemorating Jesus’ baptism.
A small number of people attended the ceremony held at Hagia Yorgi Church adjacent to the Patriarchate’s garden, amid social distancing measures.
The ceremony was followed by a cross-throwing ceremony in the Golden Horn.
Two swimmers from the Greek Orthodox community dived to retrieve the wooden crucifix thrown by Bartholomew.
