Tatlıses was handed the "Lifetime Honorary Award" during the 47th Pantene Golden Butterfly Awards ceremony held in Istanbul on Dec. 5. The move immediately prompted a backlash, since the singer is famous for beating women and belittling them.
Tatlıses frequently made headlines in the past for abusing his partners. He even went as far as to say that women should accept being beaten.
"I respect women, but I also beat them," Tatlıses openly said in the past. "A woman should accept being beaten."
Social media users reminded Pantene of his previous violent acts with screenshots of news articles.
Perihan Savaş, one of his previous partners, was hospitalized in the past after the singer beat her. In his testimony, Tatlıses said that he was infuriated after seeing Savaş with other men and that he lost his temper.
"I could have killed her," he told the police.
Derya Tuna, another one of his ex-partners, was also known to have been abused by Tatlıses for years.
