Party like there's no COVID: AKP under fire for holding congress without pandemic measures
The AKP has come under fire for holding a congress in Ankara with total disregard for pandemic measures. The number of COVID-19 cases has been on a steady increase in the country, but that didn't stop Erdoğan's AKP from gathering massive crowds.
Duvar English - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has come under fire for holding its 7th ordinary congress in the capital Ankara with total disregard for COVID-19 measures.
Large crowds gathered in front of the hall and inside it for the congress on March 24, with zero social distancing.
It has become a trend for the AKP to hold crowded congresses despite the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country, with Erdoğan once boasting about the fact that his party can gather crowds.
The images from the congress were slammed on social media, mainly over the situation of shop owners and healthcare professionals.
