Davutoğlu 'wants to become AKP leader after Erdoğan'

Future Party leader and former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu reportedly wants to become the leader of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan leaves his post.

Davutoğlu wants his newly-founded party to merge with the AKP after Erdoğan leaves and aims to be the head of his former party, a politician close to him told Duvar.

The distribution of duties in the Future Party, meanwhile, has started to be formed, with Ayhan Sefer Üstün, Selçuk Özdağ, Feramuz Üstün, Nedim Yamalı and Selim Temurci being among the "A team" of the party.

Üstün will be the party's general secretary and Davutoğlu will select 16 people for the party's top posts.

The AKP has been watching the organization within the Future Party closely, with one of the AKP's Central Decision and Management Board (MKYK) member saying that those who joined Davutoğlu's party are "the people seeking ranks."
