PodcastPrice hike introduced in public transportation in Istanbul
Public transportation prices have been increased by 29.1 percent in Istanbul, which will be effective from the new year.

The Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, run by the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), on Dec. 27 increased public transportation prices by 29.1 percent.
The increase will be effective on Jan. 1, 2023.
The taxi drivers in Istanbul had requested a 50 percent increase, saying they wouldn’t otherwise continue to work..
The president of the Istanbul Taxi Drivers Tradesmen's Association, Eyüp Aksu, has said that they will request more increases.
According to the new prices, the student ticket fee in transportation will be 4.83 liras, whereas it will be 9.90 liras without any discount.
In November, the government-run Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) reported an annual inflation rate of 84.39, whereas the independent inflation group ENAG put the figure at 170.70 percent.
