Public transportation fares in Istanbul increased by 13 pct

In Istanbul, public transportation fares have been increased by 13 percent, while in the capital Ankara, the hike was set at 40 percent.

Public transport fares in Istanbul were increased by 13 percent in Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Transportation Coordination Center's (UKOME) meeting on July 25.

Accordingly the full ticket increased from 17.70 liras to 20 Turkish liras, and the student ticket from 8.64 liras to 9.76 liras.

The Blue Card, which allows using public transport for one month, increased from 1,389 liras to 1,569 liras for full-fare, from 250 liras to 282.5 liras for students, from 864 liras to 976.3 liras for teachers and those above 60-year old (social).

Metrobus fare increased from 26.27 to 29.68 liras for full-fare, from 8.64 to 9.76 liras for students, from 14.41 to 16.28 liras for social, if all stops are used in one boarding.

Some 40 pct increase in public transport in Ankara

In the capital Ankara, the municipality's UKOME meeting on July 24 decided to apply a 40 percent hike in public transportation fares.

With the latest increase, the full fare, which was 15 liras, has risen to 21 liras, and the discounted ticket, which was 7.50 liras, is now 10.50 liras.
