In one of the graves in a cemetery for those who died in the earthquake, there was a Syrian father who was praying for her 4-year-old daughter who died in the earthquake. His wife is still receiving treatment at the hospital.
Showing a photo of his daughter, the father pointed to the tombstone: Verde Ahmed, born in 2019, died in 2023.
Victims' families sang laments which were heard from all over the cemetery. Every story is different, but the lament is similar: "My God, what pain have you caused us, it doesn't stop..."
At the foot of another grave, a woman sang a folk song: "My daughter with black eyebrows is gone…”
The woman who lives in Hatay’s Antakya district said, “My daughter, son, wife, son-in-law, all are gone. Only me and four orphans of my daughter live. How will I endure? My daughter had a child 10 years later, she left without being satisfied. God gave us great pain.”
