Renowned Turkish academic Fuat Keyman passes away at 68

Prominent Turkish political scientist Professor Fuat Keyman lost his life at the age of 68. Keyman was receiving treatment due to cancer.

Renowned Turkish academic Professor Fuat Keyman has passed away while receiving treatment due to cancer. 

68-year-old Keyman was a faculty member and vice president at Istanbul’s private Sabancı University. 

He was a leading political scientist in Turkey, focusing on globalization, democratization, international relations, Turkish foreign policy and civil society development.

Before joining Sabancı University, he was a faculty member at Turkey's Koç and Bilkent universities.

He received his PhD in Political Science from Carleton University.

“We wish condolences to all his relatives, loved ones and students,” Sabancı University said in a statement on Oct. 18.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our board member. It was an honor for us to have worked with Fuat Keyman. His experience, perspective and contributions always inspired us and added value to our work. We extend our condolences and patience to his family, all his loved ones, colleagues and students. We will always feel his absence, but we will always cherish what he brought to the Foundation,” Hrant Dink Foundation said.

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu also commemorated Keyman and wished condolences to his family and the academic world.

Several academics, journalists, civil society members, politicians and social media users also commemorated Keyman.
